Ontario Longitudinal Study of Aging (LSA)

Sample details

The LSA aimed to assess the effects of ageing on socioeconomic status and general health and evaluate the adjustments made in response to these age-related changes. The study was initiated in 1959 by the then Ontario Department of Public Welfare, which randomly sampled the male labour force of Ontario, Canada, to recruit participants. Two thousand 45-year-old males were interviewed at baseline and followed up annually (except in 1977, when funding for the project was unavailable) until they were 65 years of age in 1978.
