The LSAC began in 2004 with two initial cohorts comprising 5,000 children each, aged 4 to 5 years and 0 to 1 years, representing a cross-section of Australian children at that time. Data collection occurs biennially, involving the children's parents (both residents and non-residents), carers, and teachers, with children actively participating once they reach a certain age.
