MAAS investigated the development of asthma and allergic disease in a cohort of parents and children in the United Kingdom. Participants were over 3,600 mothers and 2,000 fathers recruited during antenatal appointments from 1995 to 1997. Over 1,000 of their children who were born at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester and Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, were also included in the study. Parents completed skin-prick tests and questionnaires at baseline, and children were assessed at birth, 1, 3, 5, 8, and 11 years old.
