The Manyatta HDSS was set up in 2016 and follows over 70,000 individuals residing in Manyatta, a densely populated urban settlement on the outskirts of Kisumu City in Kenya. As of 2023, the HDSS covered a population of 76,318 individuals within 26,097 households. The Manyatta HDSS is one of two sites in western Kenya participating in the Child Health and Mortality Prevention Surveillance (CHAMPS) network. The participants are followed up twice a year.
