The MATR is a population-based twin registry housed in Virginia Commonwealth University's (VCU) Office of the Vice President for Research & Innovation. The registry was formed when the Virginia Twin Registry and the North Carolina Twin Registry combined in 1997. By 2022, the registry had included more than 50,000 individuals from a diverse range of ages and backgrounds. Most participants live in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina in the United States.
