The Metropolit cohort initially aimed to investigate the life course of men to explore intergenerational mobility. In 1965, the study recruited over 11,500 boys born in 1953 in the Copenhagen Metropolitan area (Denmark). Data was collected on participants in 1965, 1966, and 1968. In 2001, the study was revived with a new aim to study the development of chronic disease, including conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, Dementia, Parkinson's disease, and Vascular Dementia. Participants were followed up once more in 2004, and in 2009, eligible members of the Metropolit cohort participated in the Copenhagen Ageing Midlife Biobank (CAMB) study. Approximately 500 participants underwent further neurocognitive testing in 2011. Retrospective data from 1953 and 1971 were collected through birth and healthcare registries. Through national registers, participants were followed up until 2016.
