MGLS:2017 was designed to investigate and better understand the support systems students need for academic success, high school readiness, and positive life development. Between January and July 2018, the study recruited a cohort of over 13,000 6th graders aged between 11 and 13 years from 570 schools across the United States of America. Participants completed the baseline data collection sweep in 2018 and were followed up in 2020. Parents and teachers of participants also served as informants.
