The study aimed to investigate the biological and behavioural responses to stress and risk for internalising symptoms and self-injurious thoughts and behaviours in adolescent girls in the United States of America. Participants were approximately 230 adolescents assigned female at birth, aged 9 to 14 years, who endorsed experiencing at least one mental health concern (e.g., depression, anxiety) in the two years before study recruitment. Baseline data collection began in 2015, and follow-up occurred in multiple waves over one year. A subset of participants participated in MRI scans.
