The cohort members were aged 35 years or older at baseline and the majority belonged to middle, lower-middle, and lower classes. The cohort was followed up 5 to 6 years after the initial survey in 1997 to 1999. The study recruited more cohort members until 1997, and aims to follow them until mortality.
