Sample details

The NDIT aimed to study the natural course and determinants of cigarette smoking and nicotine dependence in youth. Students were recruited from 10 French and English suburban, rural, low-income, middle-income, and high-income schools around Montreal, Canada. All grade 7 students in the selected schools were invited to participate in the study, resulting in a baseline cohort of over 1,200 participants. The baseline cohort was roughly 48% male, 82% Caucasian, and 12 years old on average.
