Sample details

NEHO aims to evaluate the role of environmental exposures, lifestyles, and socioeconomic factors on fetal development, children’s early lives, and health outcomes in a population living near industrially contaminated sites (ICSs). The cohort consisted of 845 mother-child pairs recruited from 2018 to 2020 in southern Italy. Participants were recruited from maternity units in the areas of Crotone, Augusta-Priolo, and Milazzo-Valle del Mela. Baseline assessment took place in the later stages of pregnancy and shortly after delivery. Subsequent follow-ups took place at 6, 12, and 24 months.
