NHDSS monitors the health and demographic changes of a cohort in the Kassena-Nankana districts in the Upper East Region of Ghana. The cohort consists of individuals across various ages and genders, reflecting the diverse demographic makeup of the Kassena-Nankana districts. Since its inception, the study has expanded from 25,000 participants to the current number, continually enrolling new residents to maintain comprehensive demographic coverage. As of 2012, the study includes over 156,000 participants. Participants are followed up every four months to update demographic data and monitor health outcomes.
