NIMS aims to investigate mortality patterns in Northern Ireland. The study was launched in 2006, alongside the Northern Ireland Longitudinal Study (NILS) and links the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census returns for the whole of the enumerated population of Northern Ireland (approximately 1.87 million individuals) to subsequently registered mortality data from the General Register Office (GRO). The NIMS databases are updated biannually.
