Sample details

NLSCYA follows the children of the women respondents of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth 1979 (NLSY79). The children were born between 1970 and 2014, and the first interview took place in 1986 when children were 0-16 years. Starting in 1994, children 12 and older have been included in the Young Adult data collection. As of 2020, more than 10,000 children between the ages of 12 to 50 years have been interviewed in at least one survey round out of a total of approximately 11,550 children who have been identified as born to NLSY79 mothers.
