Sample details

In order to investigate whether non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is a predictor of cardiovascular disease, a prospective observational cohort study was carried out in the setting of a medical health checkup program at Murakami Memorial Hospital, Gifu, Japan. Most of the participants were employees of various companies and local governmental organizations, as well as their spouses. Between January and December 1998, a total of 1,647 study subjects (980 men and 667 women) were included in the study. The mean age of participants at baseline was 47.8 years.
