The NOPW cohort recruited nearly 28,000 offshore workers in 1998 for prospective follow-up of cancer and cause-specific mortality in Norway. The cohort was based on a list of possible former or current offshore workers for the period of 1965 to 1998 who were invited to fill out and return a comprehensive questionnaire on work history, diet, alcohol, tobacco, education, and other factors possibly related to cancer risk. At baseline, the cohort members were around 43 years old and primarily male (91%). They have since been linked to the Cancer Registry of Norway five times, between 1998 and 2021.
