The OADP aimed to investigate the epidemiology of depression and other psychiatric disorders among a high school population. Participants were over 1,700 adolescents aged 13 to 20 years recruited from high schools in Western Oregon, United States of America. Baseline assessment took place at recruitment from 1987 to 1989, and participants were followed up several times until they were 31 years old. Over 1,500 of the original participants’ first-degree relatives, including parents and siblings, also underwent assessments when the participants were around 24 years old.
