Sample details

OBAS was a longitudinal study initiated in 1989, enrolling 305 community-dwelling, functionally independent older adults from Oregon, USA. Participants were recruited through retirement facilities, senior fairs, advertisements, and clinics, meeting initial inclusion criteria of being aged ≥ 65, functionally independent, and free of significant comorbid illnesses. In 2004, the study expanded to include participants with well-controlled chronic conditions such as hypertension and coronary artery disease. Participants were followed up annually with interim six-month assessments to monitor cognitive and neurological changes.
