The Ohsaki NHI Cohort Study follows over 52,000 National Health Insurance (NHI) beneficiaries who lived in the catchment area of Ohsaki Public Health Center, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan, from September to December of 1994. Participants were aged from 40 to 79 years at baseline and 47.8% were males. Among males, 39% were farmers, 28% were self-employed, and 28% were retired. For females, 31% were housewives, 25% farmers, and 15% self-employed. Since 1995, participants have been followed up at least until 2014.
