ORDET was designed to investigate how diet and hormones affect the onset, course and outcome of breast cancer using a population of women in Italy. Participants were healthy women aged 35 to 69 years who were residents of the Varese province of Northern Italy. At baseline, over 10,000 women participated in the study. Participants were followed up for 5 years, after which cancer cases were tracked using a linked cancer registry.
