The Ouagadougou HDSS aims to understand the health and demographic dynamics of urban and rural populations by examining vital events such as births, deaths, unions, and migration. The HDSS began in 2008, covering covering five neighbourhoods in the northern outskirts around Ouagadougou, the capital of Burkina Faso, including both rural and urban regions. As of 2015, the sample includes approximately 82,000 participants from 20,000 households, with data collection being conducted approximately every 8 months.
