Sample details

PATHS explores the relationships between family functioning, family harmony, self-harming, and suicidal behaviours. The study recruited students in the first year of secondary school from 28 schools in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, and the New Territories in Hong Kong. The only inclusion criterion was that participants were required to be able to read Chinese. At baseline, over 3,000 students were enrolled in the study. Data was collected yearly for six years, with the study ending in the 2015/2016 school year. At baseline, participants had a mean age of 12.6 years and were from all socioeconomic circumstances and areas of Hong Kong.
