The study sample consisted of at-risk babies. Babies recruited into the study were born any of: prematurely, with a low birth weight, with birth asphyxia, or with other perinatal risks or developmental delays, from any of the participating hospital clinics in Rwanda. All participants were aged under five years when recruited.
