The PERF Study is an observational, prospective cohort study of Danish postmenopausal women and was designed with the purpose of obtaining a better understanding of the development of age-related diseases in postmenopausal women. In 1999, an invitation to attend the baseline examination was sent to the entire source population, a previous research study, except for those who had died since their last contact with the clinic. The mean age in the baseline cohort was 70.8 years; nearly 75% of the cohort had primary school as their highest level of education, and less than 10% had a university degree.
