The PERSIAN Cohort recruited adults aged between 35 and 70 years across 18 distinct urban and rural areas of Iran, including Ahvaz, Ardabil, Bandar Abbas, Fasa, Guilan, Kermanshah, Mashhad, Mazandaran, Rafsanjan, Sabzevar, Shahrekord, Shiraz, Tabriz, Urmia, Yasuj, Yazd, and Zahedan. The resulting baseline cohort consisted of over 165,000 members. Participants are of a variety of ethnicities, including Fars, Turks/Azari, Kurds, Lurs, Balouchs, Arabs, and more, providing insight into how exposures differ by ethnicity.
