The PIVUS study aimed to understand how atherosclerosis and related diseases developed through examining various associated factors. Participants in the study included over 1,000 individuals aged 70 at recruitment from Uppsala, Sweden. Beginning in 2001, the participants were followed up at 5-year intervals, with major measurements repeated at age 75 and 80, and the study concluded in 2014 with 500 of the original participants.
