The study conducted a census to recruit women six or more months pregnant. The women were aged 15 to 49, and followed up seven days, six weeks, and six months postpartum. They were based in the Southern Nations, Nationalities and Peoples’ region (SNNPR), one of nine regions in Ethiopia.
