The PONS cohort is a longitudinal observational regional study collecting information on health and health-related behaviours in the south-eastern part of Poland. The study aims to provide information on determinants of health differences between Poland and other countries in the region, especially related to premature mortality. The baseline data collection contains records for over 13,000 individuals between 45 and 64 years of age, from the city of Kielce and the surrounding rural area. The mean age of participants at baseline was 56 years, and the majority were married or in cohabiting relationships; a higher proportion of men than women fit these categories. More than half of the cohort members were employed full-time at baseline.
