This study was a long-term investigation of 1650 children from the Niakhar region of central Senegal, designed to explore how early childhood growth delays affect physical development during adolescence. Participants were recruited in 1983 through a demographic census and household surveys, targeting children aged 2 to 5 years who were born after January 1978 and residing in the study area. Participants were assessed twice: first during the preschool period from 1983 to 1984 with four rounds of anthropometric surveys, and again in 1995 during adolescence to assess height and the timing of puberty.
