The PRIME Study is a multicentre cohort study conducted in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom, and France. It included 10,600 men, of whom 9,758 (7,359 in France and 2,399 in Belfast) were free of coronary disease at entry, with 842 (496 in France and 346 in Belfast) having pre-existing coronary disease. At baseline, the men ranged in age from 50 to 59 years, and the mean age was 54.4 years.
