The PROCAM study is a long-term epidemiological study initiated in 1979 to investigate risk factors for coronary heart disease (CHD) and improve early detection and prevention strategies in the German population. The study enrolled and assessed 50,000 participants - including 31,376 men and 18,624 women aged 16 to 78 years - primarily recruited from employees of large companies and public institutions in the Münster region of Germany. Follow-up examinations have been conducted approximately every four years, with diagnoses of cardiovascular and other major diseases verified through hospital and physician records.
