The Renfrew/Paisley study was one of four separate cardiorespiratory cohort studies carried out in Scotland, United Kingdom, in the 1960s and 1970s, and known collectively as the Midspan studies. The Renfrew/Paisley cohort included around 7,000 men and 8,300 women who were aged 45 to 64 years old and living in the towns of Renfrew and Paisley within the west of Scotland at baseline in 1972-1976. The cohort was followed up around 4 years later, in 1977-1979, with the same questionnaire and physical examinations as baseline, and has also been followed up for around 30 years via linkage to morbidity and mortality registers. In 1993-94, adult offspring of some of the married couples within the Renfrew/Paisley cohort were invited to take part in the final Midspan study, known as the Family study.
