Risk of mental disorders in refugees and native Danes: a register-based retrospective cohort study
BACK
Sample details

This study includes a cohort of 29,139 refugees and 116,556 native Danes. Participants were recruited through the Danish Immigration Service and Statistics Denmark, with refugees receiving residence permission in Denmark between January 1, 1993, and December 31, 1999, and matched with native Danes by age and sex. The cohort consists of refugees originating from various regions such as the former Yugoslavia, Iraq, the Middle East, Asia, Eastern Europe, and Sub-Saharan Africa and also controls who were Danish-born individuals with Danish-born parents to avoid including second-generation immigrants. Data on participants were retrospectively collected from January 1, 1994, to December 31, 2003, using records from the Danish Psychiatric Central Register and Statistics Denmark.
