ROC was launched to investigate the relationship between early life risk exposure, adversity, and long-term outcomes in a poor-urban context. The study recruited children born between April 1, 2012, and March 31, 2014, in São Paulo's University Hospital in the Butantã/Jaguaré Region of Brazil. This resulted in a baseline cohort size of over 6,100 children. Participants were of multiple ethnicities and born into families of varying levels of income, housing conditions, and exposure to violence.
