RS-II investigates the prevalence, incidence, and risk of chronic diseases in middle-aged and elderly populations in the Netherlands. In 2000, the study recruited adults aged 55 years and older living in the Onmoord suburb of Rotterdam. These adults had not been eligible in the baseline sweep of RS-I in 1989 to 1993. At baseline, over 3,000 participants were included in the cohort. RS-II collected data at five time points over 24 years, with the most recent data collection beginning in 2021.
