Sample details

The RUMiC project aims to understand the patterns and impacts of migration within China. Covering 15 cities across nine provinces, including Shanghai, Guangdong, and Jiangsu, the study consists of three surveys: the Urban Household Survey (UHS), the Rural Household Survey (RHS), and the Migrant Household Survey (MHS). Participants in this study include 54,932 individual across 8,000 rural households, 5,005 urban households, and 5,007 migrant households. The initial wave was carried out in 2008, with additional rounds conducted annually since, and new households randomly added each year to maintain the sample size and those lost to attrition. As of 2016, 3,000 households remained within the study.
