S-MBCS investigates the effects of maternal environmental exposures on pregnant women and their children in Shanghai, China. Participants are native Chinese residents of Shanghai with no history of chronic disease and were recruited between 12 and 16 weeks gestation. Over 1,200 pregnant women participated in the baseline data collection, and over 1,200 babies were assessed after birth. Participants were followed up during gestation, at delivery, and 1,4 and 6 years post-birth.
