The SACR has been collecting data on cancer incidence and mortality since 1977 on cancer diagnoses in the Australian state of South Australia. Information on new cancers and cancer-related deaths are notified under the Health Care Act 2008 and updated annually in the SACR. Data are used to describe trends in cancer incidence and death in South Australia. These trends inform cancer service planning and health policy, as well as helping to evaluate cancer prevention, screening, and treatment services.
