Sample details

The SAM cohort was established to examine differences in institutionalisation rate and length of stay between stroke patients with and without dementia. Baseline assessments were conducted on 486 participants aged 55 to 85, when admitted to Helsinki University Central Hospital, Finland, between December 1993 and March 1995. After baseline, follow-ups were completed at 3 months, with the final follow-up at 12-15 years, via national registry analyses, to determine the participants' time spent in institutional settings.
