For the SCC study, adults aged 25 to 89 were recruited from the Guangdong, Fujian, Guangxi and Hainan provinces of South China. The first follow up collected data on approximately 94% of the participants, with passive follow ups planned annually through linked administrative records. Active follow ups are planned with at least 20% of the study cohort every five years. Approximately 61% of the cohort are female, with 80% of Han ethnicity.
