Sample details

The SCHS began in 1993, with recruitment up to 1998, aiming to investigate the dietary, genetic, and environmental determinants of cancer and other chronic diseases in Singapore. The study recruited 63,257 Chinese individuals, with 27,959 male participants and 35,298 female participants, from either the Hokkiens or Cantonese dialect groups. Follow-ups have been repeatedly conducted, with the first one being in 1999-2004 with 52,325 participants and in 2006-2010 with 39,528 participants, with ongoing linkage to national health databases.
