Seattle Longitudinal Study (SLS)

Sample details

SLS began in 1956, and followed the participants every seven years. Over 6,000 people that were part of the Group Health Cooperative at the time of recruitment, have taken part in the SLS. At each wave, new participants were additionally recruited alongside participants being followed up. In the late 1900s, participants' siblings and adult children were interviewed, with grandchildren also responding in the early 2000s. A follow up study focused on the midlife of participants was funded from 2005 - 2015, called "Midlife Cognitive Change and Risk of Cognitive Decline". In the 1998 sweep, 719 participants were interviewed.
