Sample details

The SWHS is a historical cohort study investigating the effects of dioxin exposure on the health of women and in utero exposure during a 1976 industrial accident in Seveso, Italy. Baseline assessments were conducted in 1996 on 981 women who were living in Seveso at the time of the explosion. Follow-ups were conducted approximately 20, 30, and 40 years after the accident (1996-98, 2008-09, 2014-16), with the third follow-up also assessing the participants' children who were born after the explosion (Seveso Second Generation).
