Sample details

SHARE is a multi-national panel survey collecting data on health, socioeconomics status, and social and family networks across the European Union and Israel. Commencing in 2004, the study targets recruitment towards participants aged 50 years and over who have their regular domicile in the respective SHARE country, although current partners living in the same household are also interviewed regardless of their age. All SHARE respondents interviewed in any previous wave are part of the longitudinal sample, and are traced and re-interviewed if moving within the country. The first wave collected data from over 28,000 participants across Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. Later waves also collected data from Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia, with data now collected for around 160,000 participants.
