Sample details

The SHEEP is a study of risk factors for an individual's first episode of acute myocardial infarction (MI) in Stockholm, Sweden. The SHEEP database is primarily used to evaluate exposures and risk factors for first-time MI and factors influencing short- and long-term prognosis after MI. The study cohort included participants who had MI and a healthy control group. Over 2,200 MI cases were recruited from acute care wards in Stockholm and healthcare and mortality records. Around 3,200 healthy controls were randomly recruited from the study base of 45- to 70-year-olds in Stockholm using population registers. Participants completed a baseline assessment from 1992 to 1994 and a follow-up examination after at least 3 months.
