The SKC Cohort Study investigated the frequency of chronic kidney disease (CKD) patient safety incidents (PSIs) in a population of adult kidney disease patients to determine how often people are exposed to treatments, tests and procedures that could increase their chances of having a PSI. In 2011, the study recruited 350 patients with kidney disease aged 21 years or older from Maryland, United States of America. Participants were followed up through telephone appointments every six months and in-person hospital visits annually until death or the end of the SKC study in 2016.
