Within the SLTR, there are two cohorts: the population-based registry with over 9,500 twin pairs and over 45 triplets, and the volunteer cohort with 7,000 twin pairs and 86 triplets. The population-based group reside within the Columbo district of Sri Lanka, whereas the volunteer cohort are based across the country. At the initial recruitment to the registry in 1996, over 4,370 twin pairs were recruited, as well as 80 triplets and two quadruplets.
