Sample details

The SMWHS was established to illuminate women's experiences of symptoms during the menopausal transition. Data collection began with 508 women who were about to begin or had begun the transition to menopause between 1990 and 1992, recruited via telephone screening in over 20 census tracts. Follow-ups were conducted annually, with additional data collected monthly or quarterly, depending on the study phase. This continued until February 2013, after 23 years of data collection.
