SNAP sought to quantify the prevalence of autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) in children in South Thames, United Kingdom. The population cohort is nearly 57,000 children born between July 1, 1990, and December 31, 1991, in 12 districts in South Thames, England. All children currently resident within those 12 districts with a birthdate within the relevant period were included. The children were then screened for a diagnosis of childhood autism, Asperger syndrome, pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified, or atypical autism. A total of 255 children (223 boys and 32 girls) and families received an in-depth assessment. Data collection for wave 1 took place between 2001 and 2003. Wave 3 data collection occurred between 2013 and 2015.
