The SOPS is a longitudinal study aiming to increase the understanding of ageing successfully, with a focus on the definition, consequences, and possible causes of neurodegenerative disorders. The study followed a cohort of subjects aged 75 and over, community living in the inner west region of Sydney, Australia, and was carried out over seven years in four waves from 1991 until 2003. The cohort was comprised of a veteran and non-veteran group, of which comprised 60% and 40% men, respectively.
